Common Questions:
Do I need a partner? Although Salsa is a partner dance you do not have to bring one along with you. Salsa is a very social dance where everyone dances with everyone else. It is therefore common practice to rotate the class so that you get to dance with and meet other people.
What do I wear? Wear light, comfortable clothing preferably layers that can be removed if necessary. This applies even in the winter as you will get hot (hopefully!) while dancing
What shoes should I wear? Again wear comfortable shoes, not too high for the ladies and I would suggest no flip flops or backless sandals as you may find yourself struggling to keep them on your feet. Trainers are fine if that’s what you’re used to.
Am I too old/young? Salsa appeals to a broad age range so if you’re fit and healthy you’re never too old! The classes are for adults but under 16’s are welcome providing they are accompanied by an adult.
Do I need to book or can I just turn up? You will need to book your free trial lesson which can be done via the website (see form on left). If you’re an Absolute Beginner there are regular free tasters approximately every 7 weeks. Dates will be posted on the website so check back if you’ve just missed one. For all other levels you can choose your date but if for any reason you can’t make that date you will need to rebook.
I run 6-week courses for Beginners & Improvers which will need to be booked and paid for in advance.
All other levels are drop-in and payable weekly although you can purchase membership cards if you want to save a bit of money.
I can’t make it every week but I really want to learn, what can I do? I appreciate that it’s not always easy to commit to six consecutive weeks but due to modern busy lifestyles. If you miss just one class it won’t matter too much as I always recap the previous week before moving on. However, if you think that you will have to miss 2 or more then you can always make up the sessions at my other venue OR make up the lost lessons via a private lesson.
Just remember that if you really want to make progress it is vital that you attend regular classes at least once, preferably twice a week and to practice, practice, and practice. If you’re not quite ready for the club scene just yet there are always opportunities at the end of the weekly sessions to ‘stay & play!’
