ABOUT US
So you want to learn salsa?
If your experience turns out to be anything like mine it could go a bit
like this!
Nicky Salazar
I
went to my fist Salsa class with a couple of girlfriends in 1992 when it was still
very much in its infancy. My friends dropped out after a couple of weeks
but I carried on and quickly became addicted (this is completely normal
by the way). Sometimes I would go out as much as five
times a week just to dance! Needless to say I not only improved my fitness
level but my stamina too!
I have taken classes with all the
best teachers & I continue to update my knowledge
whenever possible by attending workshops in London and beyond.
By 1999 my self-confidence
had improved so much that I decided that I would like to teach. So I
trained as a UKA
qualified instructor and formed SalSalazar. I started teaching regularly
in Essex and North London which included
working with several regional dance agencies such as EssexDance, Herts
Dance & Dance East.
In 2006 we moved to East
Grinstead so I started up new classes in the local area (click
here full or details of current classes).
My style is Casino, Cuban Style. I am passionate
about both the music and the style and endeavour to portray this in my
teaching. I also present the classes in a fun and enthusiastic way. I
firmly believe that if you have a solid grounding in the basics then you
can fly as high as you want to and feel a great sense of achievement in
helping students progress from absolute beginner to dancer.
